DESCRIPTION:Come hear Aaron Groth\, Oregon State University Forestry &amp\;
  Natural Resources Extension Fire Specialist for the Oregon Coast\, speak 
 about "Fire Prevention and Preparedness in the Siletz Valley" at our Septe
 mber potluck!\n\nLincoln County has been impacted by large\, stand-replaci
 ng crown fires\, such as the Siletz (1849) and Yaquina (1853) Burns. Accor
 ding to ODF data\, about 10\,000 acres of private and state lands have bur
 ned across the county since 1960. During the Labor Day 2020 Fires\, Lincol
 n County residents faced loss of power and communications during the Echo 
 Mountain Fire Complex. This generated fear and uncertainty among community
  members. Climate change\, population growth and land use changes likely i
 ncrease the risk of fire as well as the potential impacts of fire on the C
 oast. It is important to plan ahead to protect your home and property and 
 also to have an evacuation plan. We will discuss strategies for fire prepa
 redness and prevention\, as well as key resources.\n\nBIO:\nAaron is the r
 egional fire specialist for the Coast in the OSU Forestry and Natural Reso
 urces Extension Fire Program.  Aaron works with communities as well as lo
 cal\, state\, federal\, private\, and nonprofit partners at different scal
 es across the Coast to provide education and foster fire resilient communi
 ties and landscapes.  He has worked for city\, state\, and federal agenci
 es\, international cooperation\, nonprofits\, and served as an Environment
 al Peace Corps Volunteer in Peru.
